MHR Research Symposium

On February 3, the Masters of Human Rights program held its annual Research Symposium. Second-year students from the thesis and practicum streams presented on their research, with amazing presentations on human rights education, Indigenous reconciliation, gaps between international law and domestic implementation, and human rights in the digital age. We were also honoured with our keynote speaker, the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, and guest speakers Métis Elder Norman Meade and journalist Bartley Kives.

MHRSA Co-Hosts Successful Legal Rights Clinic

On October 15, 2025, the Masters of Human Rights Student Association, in collaboration with Students for Justice in Palestine - University of Manitoba chapter, hosted a successful know-your-rights legal clinic. Three fantastic lawyers donated their time to share information on protest injunctions, international student rules, and protesting rights to an audience of over forty attendees. Amazing food, including Shawarma, was provided by our wonderful sponsor, Habibiz Café! A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success, especially Kyra and Mona as lead planners!

Students Run in Solidarity with Palestine

On September 21, 2025, MHRSA members participated in Winnipeg’s fifth annual Run for Palestine at Assiniboine Park. Over 500 participants ran, walked or volunteered to raise money for Islamic Relief Canada’s on-the-ground humanitarian efforts in Gaza and the West Bank. Thank you to the Canadian Palestinian Association of Manitoba (CPAM) for organizing an amazing event!

The 2025-26 academic year begins with a successful Orientation!

MHRSA kicked off the 2025-26 academic year with a successful first day of orientation at Robson Hall! Incoming Masters of Human Rights and Masters of Laws students met program faculty, staff and student association executives. Their week continued with a tour of Robson Hall, a guest lecture at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, sessions on mindfulness and accessibility, and a guided tour of the Canadian Museum of Human Rights!
